Rich tributes paid to late NCP leader D P Tripathi on his 73rd birth anniversary

New Delhi: A special ceremony was organized to commemorate the life of late Devi Prasad Tripathi, fondly known as DPT, former member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Chief Spokesperson and General Secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at India International Centre, New Delhi to mark his 73rd birth anniversary on January 6, 2023.

Devi Prasad Tripathi fondly called DPT passed away in January 2020 after a prolonged illness.

The function was presided by Kanishka Tripathi, Chairman, Vichar Nyas Foundation and moderated by Dr Purushottam Agrawal. The ceremony was graced by several leaders who paid rich tributes to the NCP stalwart.

The ceremony was followed by a launch of three books – Devi Ke DPT Banne Ki Kahani by Dr Pushpesh Pant and translated by Vandana Mishra, Teri Mehfil Mein, Lekin Hum Na Honge by Sanjeev Ranjan and Sarvahara Samant DP Tripathi by Raghavendra Dubey – capturing the life and legacy of DPT.

The book launch was attended by Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament Lok Sabha NCP, Praful Patel, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha NCP, K C Tyagi, former member of Parliament Rajya Sabha and General Secretary & National Spokesperson Janata Dal – United (JDU), Shyam Jaju, former national vice president Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sanjay Singh, Member of Parliament Rajya Sabha Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Dr. Sanjay Singh former union minister and ex-Rajya Sabha member BJP, Dr. Shankar Sharma, Nepal Ambassador to India, Dr. Janice Darbari honorary Consul General Republic of Montenegro, Bimalendra Nidhi, former deputy prime minister & Home minister Nepal, Samim Ansari, President Muslim Ayog Nepal among many others.

Among those who paid their tributes included –

Supriya Sule: “A friend, philosopher and guide. Man of such intellect and knowledge is hard to find”. He was always so energetic and so positive and his knowledge on various subjects, be it Tulasidas or Faiz, and his command on languages was really commendable. 

Bimalendra Nidhi:

“He was a true friend of Nepal who understood Nepal and today I am here to pay tribute to him not only from my side but on behalf of Nepali Congress and on behalf of the people of Nepal.”

Praful Patel:

“DPT this name translates to Har Mann ka meet. He was a friend to everyone and was respected and loved by all. He could discuss anything from Tulsidas to Marx and from technology to space, such was his unique intellect.”

Dr. Sanjay Singh, BJP:

He said after whatever I have spoken, I would only say that in one sentence, DPT they, DPT hain aur DPT rahengey.

Sanjay Singh, AAP:

One thing that always mesmerised me was his memory – He would remember everyone by their voice, such was his mind. 

K C Tyagi, JDU:

His knowledge and ability to speak on any subject, his out of the norm sharp memory and his ability to maintain such cordial relations across party lines were what made DPT.
