A major controversy has erupted in the Hindi film industry after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees announced a non-cooperation directive against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh following his reported exit from Don 3 just weeks before filming.
The decision was announced during a press conference on Monday, where senior federation officials claimed that complaints had been submitted against the actor by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani over the sudden development surrounding the much-awaited project.
FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit said the producers informed the federation that Ranveer allegedly stepped away from the film barely three weeks before shooting was scheduled to begin.
According to Pandit, the federation attempted multiple times to resolve the matter privately by asking the actor to appear before them, but received no response.
“We invited Ranveer Singh three times to come and meet us personally, but he did not respond,” Pandit said during the media interaction.
He further claimed that after the federation announced plans for a press conference, Ranveer’s team sent an email stating that the dispute did not fall under FWICE’s jurisdiction.
FWICE President BN Tiwari later confirmed that the organisation had decided to issue a “non-cooperative directive” against the actor.
One federation member claimed the order would impact all departments connected to film production.
“Whether it is a spot boy, director, cameraman or lightman, no one will work with Ranveer,” the member said.
Ranveer Singh had earlier been announced as the lead actor in Don 3, the next installment of the iconic action franchise directed by Farhan Akhtar and produced under the banner of Excel Entertainment.
However, reports recently suggested that the actor chose to walk away from the project shortly before filming, leading to tensions between the production house and the star.
So far, neither Ranveer Singh nor Farhan Akhtar has publicly addressed the controversy or reacted to FWICE’s announcement.
Despite the dispute, Ranveer remains one of Bollywood’s busiest stars. The actor recently delivered a commercial success with Dhurandhar: The Revenge and is expected to appear next in Pralay, directed by Jai Mehta. Industry reports also suggest he has filmed a cameo appearance in King starring Shah Rukh Khan.
