In light of the escalating suicide cases among students in Kota, Rajasthan’s coaching hub, State Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas has strongly advocated stringent measures against what he terms the coaching “mafia”. Accusing coaching centers of being solely profit-driven, Khachariyawas appealed to parents to refrain from enrolling their children in these institutions.
Khachariyawas asserted, “The coaching operators in Rajasthan may be financially prosperous, but they must not subject children to monetary pressure. They should exercise caution, or else their coaching centers will face a dearth of students.”
He added, “I want to assure parents that their children can excel without resorting to these coaching centers. The children are capable. While you pay the coaching centers, they impose stress on your children. Is it necessary for coaching centers to conduct exams every other day?”
The minister further highlighted that a “mafia” has emerged in the guise of coaching centers across the state, stressing that the government must take stern action against these establishments.
“In our time, coaching was unheard of. Weren’t doctors and IPS officers being produced back then? A mafia has sprung up under the pretext of coaching, and the government needs to take decisive action against this phenomenon. The Chief Minister has already instructed law enforcement officers, including SPs and collectors, to take appropriate measures,” Khachariyawas stated.
Tragically, the recent toll of suicides among students in the state has reached 23, with two NEET aspirants taking their lives on Sunday. A 16-year-old student from Latur, Maharashtra, met a fatal end by leaping from the sixth floor of his institute. Simultaneously, an 18-year-old student from Bihar tragically ended their life by hanging in their hostel room.
