Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, actively engaged in campaigning for his party in Telangana ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections, took a strong stance against Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. During a public gathering in Kalwakurthy, he criticized Shah’s recent statement in which he claimed that the BJP would appoint a leader from the backward caste as the Chief Minister of the state if they came into power.
In his sharp rebuke of Shah, the Congress MP asserted, “Previously, BJP leaders used to swagger with inflated confidence, but the Congress party has deflated their self-assurance. We have punctured all four of their wheels. Now, their leader comes here and says ‘we will make an OBC chief minister.’ You only hold a meager 2% of the votes here, so how do you plan to make one of your own a chief minister?”
“Next time, the Prime Minister might consider venturing to the United States and pledge to appoint an OBC president there. However, you won’t be able to secure a president in America, just as you won’t have a chief minister here. It’s important to refrain from making baseless promises to the people of Telangana. First, fix your own deflated vehicle,” Gandhi continued.
The former Congress President also committed to “returning the money that has been looted from the people of Telangana.”
Taking a dig at PM Modi, Gandhi remarked, “I’m not like PM Narendra Modi. When I make a promise, I keep it.”
He further criticized Modi’s unfulfilled promise, stating, “Narendra Modi had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in every bank account, but not a single rupee found its way into your accounts, while vast sums went into Adani’s bank account.”
Gandhi also targeted the incumbent Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), saying, “First, he (Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao) will step down from the chief minister’s post. After that, we will inquire about the funds taken from the people of Telangana by KCR.”
He concluded by assuring the public, “I am determined to return the money that the Chief Minister has taken from you back into your pockets.”
