New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the announcement of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that the breakthrough would lead to lasting peace and humanitarian relief in the war-torn region.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.”
The Prime Minister also lauded the “strong leadership” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling the development a significant step toward regional stability.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of his long-awaited peace roadmap — a deal aimed at ending the devastating two-year conflict that began after the October 7 attacks.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that both sides would release all hostages and prisoners, while Israeli troops would pull back to an agreed-upon line.
“All parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel…” Trump declared.
Following the announcement, Netanyahu described the agreement as a “national and moral victory” for Israel, thanking Trump for his “unwavering commitment to the safety of Israel and the freedom of our hostages.”
The Israeli leader reiterated that his government’s mission remains unfinished: “From the beginning, I made it clear: we will not rest until all our hostages return and all our goals are achieved. Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point,” Netanyahu said in his post on X.
