Pawan Kalyan Opens Up About His Political Struggles
Pawan Kalyan has stirred debate across southern political circles after making an unusually candid comparison between his long political struggle and the swift rise of actor-turned-politicians in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a public event attended by Janasena Party workers, Kalyan reflected on his 15-year political journey and admitted that watching developments in Tamil Nadu politics recently made him feel envious.
“I was watching Tamil politics recently. They did politics so effortlessly and comfortably… it actually made me jealous,” Pawan Kalyan said while addressing supporters.
Vijay’s Political Rise Draws Attention
Though he did not directly criticise anyone, Kalyan’s remarks were widely interpreted as a reference to actor Vijay and the growing political momentum surrounding the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu.
Pawan Kalyan jokingly remarked that leaders elsewhere appeared to rise politically with relative ease through publicity campaigns, cutouts and holograms, while he endured years of political setbacks and criticism.
“Just by setting up cutouts, they won… they beautifully went on to become Chief Ministers. But as for me, even after being dragged on the streets for 15 years…” he said while laughing during the speech.
The statement quickly went viral on social media, with clips of his speech widely circulated among political and film fans.
‘Running a Party Is Not Easy’
The Janasena chief also used the occasion to highlight the challenges involved in managing a political organisation and keeping supporters united.
“Managing a political party means uniting hundreds of thousands of people. We can’t even get our own family members to agree on a single thing,” he remarked.
Political observers viewed the comments as a rare moment of personal reflection from Kalyan, who has often maintained a serious and combative political stance in Andhra Pradesh.
From Electoral Setbacks to Major Comeback
Jana Sena Party was founded by Pawan Kalyan in 2014, but the actor-politician initially struggled to translate popularity into electoral success.
In the 2019 elections, the party managed to win only one seat, while Kalyan himself lost both constituencies he contested.
However, the political landscape changed dramatically in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh elections, when Janasena emerged as a key force in the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance.
The party achieved a remarkable clean sweep by winning all 21 Assembly seats it contested, while Kalyan secured his maiden Assembly victory from Pithapuram with a massive winning margin.
Southern Political Comparisons Intensify
Pawan Kalyan’s remarks have now reignited comparisons between the political cultures of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where film stars have historically transitioned into major political leaders far more rapidly.
