Operation Sindoor Debate Set For July 29: Government Readies Aggressive Response As Opposition Mounts Pressure

New Delhi: A high-stakes parliamentary debate on Operation Sindoor is scheduled for July 29, as the government allocates 16 hours each in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for a detailed discussion during the ongoing Monsoon Session. According to information reported by India Today, the debate will see interventions by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, amid mounting demands from the Opposition for a full disclosure on the military operation and other national security issues.

The discussion will begin in the Lok Sabha on Monday, followed by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The Opposition had urged for the debate to start earlier, but the government cited the Prime Minister’s ongoing foreign visit to the United Kingdom and Maldives as the reason for the delayed schedule.

The issue has escalated politically after former US President Donald Trump claimed that he had “brokered a ceasefire” between India and Pakistan following the May 7 operation — prompting the Opposition to demand a clear explanation from the government.

Sources cited by India Today confirmed that the government is preparing an aggressive response. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has already held a series of high-level meetings with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and the three Service Chiefs to finalize the Centre’s strategy.

The timing of the debate — just after Kargil Vijay Diwas (July 26) — is being viewed as symbolic. The government appears to be positioning Operation Sindoor as a continuation of India’s legacy of military strength and strategic response.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a swift retaliatory strike in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation, which lasted only 22 minutes, involved targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Prime Minister Modi hailed it as a “Vijay Utsav,” reflecting India’s evolving defence capabilities and assertive security doctrine.

The Opposition, however, is not limiting its attack to the military operation. It has also raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and the recent terror incidents, accusing the government of evading serious accountability. They have demanded weekly Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings to ensure more structured discussions.
