“No More Ties with NDA”: AIADMK Leader Panruti Ramachandran Announces Breakup, Says OPS Will Launch Statewide Campaign

Chennai: In a significant political development ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, senior AIADMK leader and close aide of O. Panneerselvam (OPS), Panruti Ramachandran, on Thursday announced a formal break in ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Ramachandran declared, “We are breaking the relationship with the NDA alliance. As of now, there is no alliance with any party. In the future, depending on circumstances, a decision on alliance would be taken.”

This move marks a turning point for the faction led by O. Panneerselvam, who had earlier been sidelined within the AIADMK due to internal power struggles with Edappadi K. Palaniswami. With this announcement, the OPS camp is signaling a clear path of political independence.

Ramachandran further revealed that the AIADMK Workers Rights Retrieval Committee, coordinated by OPS, will soon launch a statewide campaign across Tamil Nadu. The campaign is expected to focus on worker rights, internal democracy in political parties, and the revival of Dravidian ideals.

“The reason for this is well-known; there is no need for explanation,” Ramachandran added, in an apparent reference to the widening ideological and strategic rift with the BJP as well as internal disagreements over alliance benefits.
