No migrant worker sleeps hungry at Mira Road’s Fountain hotel, says Anees Sheikh who distributes free food

Thane: Thousands of migrant workers are leaving Maharashtra in droves and desperately want to reach their native villages. Even in Thane’s Mira Road, several migrant workers assemble near Fountain Hotel in hope that they will get bus or truck which will take them to their destination.

However, amidst this lockdown it is difficult for them to find food and water on their way back home. So Anees and Kamal Sheikh are making sure that every worker who is passing by near the Fountain hotel gets food and water.

The duo of Anees and Kamal started the initiative after they come to know that thousands of workers are assembling at Fountain hotel daily and have no facility of food and water. “I and my friend Kamal decided to help them because they cannot have any access to food and water as because of lockdown everything is shut, so every day we try to distribute  food packets with one water bottle and make sure that no one sleeps hungry,” said Anees Sheikh.

Arvind a labourer who resides in Bhayander was waiting for his bus which will take him Gujarat, “My bus driver said he will come tomorrow and now I have to sleep on the pavement for one night, I can’t go back to my room because it is too far from here and I won’t be able to walk so long. But thanks to these people who are distributing food and water”.

Just like Arvind, many workers are stranded in Mira Road and waiting for their turn to go home. Anees and Kamal have guaranteed that they will distribute food and water every day till the time all this does not get over.
