BJP national president Nitin Nabin visited Saharanpur on Monday as the party stepped up its organisational preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
During his visit, Nabin held separate closed-door meetings with former leaders and current office-bearers from western Uttar Pradesh. The discussions focused on the party organisation, feedback from the ground and preparations for the upcoming Assembly polls.
Nabin holds separate meetings with BJP leaders
The meetings took place at a resort on Ambala Road and continued for nearly two-and-a-half hours in total.
Nabin first met former elected representatives and former party office-bearers from western Uttar Pradesh. The meeting lasted close to two hours, with the BJP president seeking feedback based on their political and organisational experience.
The second meeting, which lasted around 30 minutes, involved serving elected representatives and current office-bearers.
According to the source material, discussions during the second meeting also covered the political position of potential ticket aspirants as the party begins preparations for candidate selection.
Both meetings were held away from the media.
Focus on western Uttar Pradesh
The Saharanpur visit comes at a time when the BJP is reviewing its organisational position across Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 elections.
Western Uttar Pradesh is considered an important region in state politics, with local caste and community dynamics playing a role in electoral contests.
Saharanpur district has seven Assembly constituencies — Behat, Nakur, Saharanpur Nagar, Saharanpur Dehat, Deoband, Rampur Maniharan and Gangoh. Rampur Maniharan is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.
In the 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP won five of these seven seats, while the Samajwadi Party secured two.
Nabin reaches out to Dalit community
After the organisational meetings, Nabin travelled to Ojhpura, where he visited a Ravidas temple and offered prayers.
He also had lunch at the residence of a Dalit BJP worker.
The outreach comes against the backdrop of Saharanpur’s social composition. According to the 2011 Census figures cited in the source material, Scheduled Castes account for around 22% of the district’s population, while Muslims make up around 43%.
BJP president highlights government projects
Speaking to reporters after the meetings, Nabin said the BJP was working to take all sections of society along with the party.
He also spoke about development initiatives of the Uttar Pradesh government, referring to projects and sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, expressways and BrahMos missile production.
Nabin also said the response from BJP workers showed enthusiasm ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
He expressed confidence that the BJP would return to power with a majority in Uttar Pradesh in 2027.
Organisation-building ahead of election
The Saharanpur meeting is part of the BJP’s wider organisational preparations for the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
The party is gathering feedback from its existing and former leaders while examining the ground-level strength of its organisation and local political dynamics.
The discussions with both the old guard and current leadership also provide the party with separate inputs as it moves towards campaign planning and the eventual selection of candidates for the 2027 polls.
