West Bengal Assembly Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has rejected claims of arbitrary deletions from electoral rolls, asserting that neither his name nor that of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been removed.
Addressing concerns over the ongoing voter list revision, Adhikari questioned the basis of the allegations and maintained that the exercise is targeting only irregular entries.
“Neither my name nor Mamata Banerjee’s name has been removed from the voter list, so whose name has been removed?” he said.
Claims of Removal of ‘Fake Voters’
“The names of fake voters, Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators, have been removed,” Adhikari stated, intensifying the political debate around the voter verification drive in the state.
CAA Assurance and Citizenship Promise
Referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Adhikari said individuals who arrived in India after 2002 would be granted citizenship under the law and subsequently included in the voter list.
“Those who came after 2002 will be given citizenship under the CAA, and their names will also be added to the voter list. PM Modi is there, there’s no need to worry,” he said.
He further added, “Everyone will get citizenship through the CAA, and their names will also be in the voter list.”
Political Implications Ahead of Elections
Adhikari, who is contesting from Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies, made the remarks amid heightened political activity in West Bengal. The voter list revision and citizenship issues are expected to remain central to the state’s political discourse in the run-up to elections.
