Iranian state media has claimed that a second US fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, the F-35 Lightning II, has been shot down over central Iran by an advanced air defence system operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to reports by Iranian outlets, the aircraft was targeted using a newly deployed air-defence system belonging to the IRGC Aerospace Force, marking what Tehran describes as a major technological breakthrough.
What Do Iranian Reports Claim?
State-run media, including Press TV and IRIB, cited officials from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, who said the stealth jet was struck mid-air and crashed after a “massive explosion.”
Authorities suggested that due to the intensity of the blast, the pilot likely did not eject or survive the crash. Iranian sources also claimed that the system used was capable of detecting and engaging advanced stealth aircraft like the F-35.
