Eknath Shinde Pays Tribute to Pahalgam Braveheart
In a heartfelt gesture of remembrance and gratitude, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday paid tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the youth who was killed while attempting to protect innocent civilians during the Pahalgam terror attack in 2025. A newly built house was formally handed over to Shah’s family in Jammu and Kashmir, fulfilling a promise made by Shinde after the tragedy.
Joining the ceremony via video conferencing, Shinde described Adil as “a shining symbol of humanity and courage,” praising the young man’s selfless act of bravery during one of the deadliest terror incidents in the region.
Shiv Sena Delivers on Promise to Martyr’s Family
The new house was constructed by Shiv Sena, as part of a support package announced by Shinde following Adil’s death. The party had earlier provided financial assistance of ₹5 lakh and committed to building a permanent home for the bereaved family.
The residence has been named “Anand Nath Bhavan”, in memory of late Anand Dighe, symbolising respect and honour for the sacrifice made by Adil.
Syed Adil Hussain Shah Remembered as a National Hero
“He fearlessly confronted the attackers and tried to snatch their weapon to protect innocent lives. In doing so, he laid down his life for humanity,” Shinde said.
He further stated that Adil’s bravery went beyond religion or region and represented the highest ideals of the nation.
“His sacrifice is unforgettable. He was not just the son of one family but a hero who stood for humanity and the values of the nation,” he added.
New House Dedicated as Symbol of Honour
Calling the home more than just a residence, Shinde said the newly built structure stands as a mark of respect for Adil’s sacrifice.
“This house is not just a shelter but a symbol of honour for a martyr’s sacrifice,” the Deputy Chief Minister said, reaffirming that Shiv Sena will continue supporting families affected by national tragedies. Maharashtra ministers Sanjay Shirsat and Yogesh Kadam personally handed over the house to the family in Adil’s native village in the Pahalgam region, emphasizing that the initiative was a humanitarian effort rooted in gratitude.
Family Thanks Shinde for Support During Difficult Times
Adil’s family, overwhelmed with emotion, thanked Shinde and Shiv Sena for standing by them in their darkest hour. They said the assistance had given them dignity and stability after the devastating loss. Shinde also recalled the ideology of Bal Thackeray, saying the party has always believed in helping people beyond caste, religion, and regional divisions.
Tourism in Pahalgam Yet to Recover
During the visit, local residents informed the delegation that tourism in the region is still struggling to recover after the terror attack, badly affecting livelihoods in the area. The visiting ministers assured residents that efforts would be made with the Centre to restore tourism and bring normalcy back to the region.
