The Mahadev Online betting app case has taken a startling turn with the emergence of new details. A report in a leading English daily has claimed that Saurabh Chandrakar, the promoter of the Mahadev Online betting app, flaunted his purported links with the notorious D-gang and India’s most-wanted fugitive underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, when approached by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for extortion.
According to the report, the police are now suspecting that Saurabh Chandrakar may be operating under the “protection” of the D-gang. It was revealed that Chandrakar had hosted a lavish party that included Bollywood celebrities on the guest list. It was after this extravagant gathering that Lawrence Bishnoi, who continues to manage his gangster activities and network from behind bars, contacted Chandrakar, demanding extortion money. However, Chandrakar allegedly not only dismissed Bishnoi’s demands but also boldly asserted his own connections to the underworld.
This shocking revelation adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing investigation into the Mahadev Online betting app case. It raises questions about the extent of criminal involvement and the possible collusion between the online betting operation and criminal networks.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had recently made significant strides in the case by arresting four individuals on September 13. The case centers around the alleged amassing of Rs 5,000 crores by the app’s two main promoters based in Dubai. The ED also seized assets worth Rs 417 crore in connection with the investigation.
The Mahadev Online Betting app is said to have provided an illegal platform for betting on various games, including poker, card games, chance games, tennis, cricket, badminton, football, and others.
Lawrence Bishnoi, originally from Fazilka in Punjab, has been in custody since 2014, following an encounter with the Rajasthan state Police. In 2022, he was transferred to Delhi’s Tihar jail. Furthermore, in June 2022, Bishnoi was arrested by Punjab Police in connection with the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, further adding to his criminal record.
