Mumbai: The Dhananjay Munde-Renu Sharma case has taken a curious turn as former MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Krishna Hegde and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Manish Dhuri have accused the complainant Renu Sharma of trying to honey trap them with a aim to extract money from them. A third case of one Rizwan Qureshi, a Jet Airways employee facing harassment at the hands of the complainant has come to light, all in a day’s span on Thursday.

The accusations come at a time when the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) top leadership has gone into a huddle to decide on what future course of action should be taken in the matter.

Hegde’s complaint comes a day after the BJP had moved the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking disqualification of the NCP Minister for Social Justice. Already the BJP leadership has been left red-faced with some overzealous party leaders running hashtags on social media against Munde which boomeranged badly on the party. Sources close to the NCP leader accused complainant Renu Sharma of being part of a honey trap gang that extracted money from their victims.

Hegde in his complaint lodged at Amboli police station in Andheri stated that Renu Sharma had been calling him, messaging him and coaxing him since 2010 to have a relationship with her. He alleged that the harassment went on to the point of stalking. Hegde argued that through his sources he found out that Renu Sharma is a dubious person who sets up honey traps and hence he totally avoided meeting her.

The former MLA stated that the harassment, messages and phone calls continued till 2015 but he studiously avoided meeting her. Hegde contends that he told her clearly that he was not interested in meeting her and forget having any kind of relationship with him as she seeks.

Hegde stated that two days ago he was shocked to see and read in the media of the complainant Renu Sharma’s allegations against Minister Dhananjay Munde which is when he decided to inform the police about Renu Sharma. “Today, they have targeted him, a couple of years ago it could have been me and tomorrow it will be someone else. This is a process to lure, honey trap, blackmail and extort money and I would request the Mumbai Police to file a FIR and take the matter to its logical conclusion”, remarked Krishna Hegde.

This was closely followed by MNS leader Manish Dhuri who too alleged that the complainant had tried to entice, beseech him into a relationship. He added that he somehow managed to extricate himself from the tricky situation. Dhuri further disclosed that he too would lodge a police complaint against Renu Sharma.

In the Rizwan Qureshi case, sources contended that the complainant Renu Sharma got friendly with the Jet Airways staffer in 2018-19 through social media. After spending time in hotels, the lady accused Rizwan Qureshi of molestation and lodged a sexual assault case with the police.

Sources further argued that a new trend has emerged in big cities of trying to get up close with prominent people in public life, extract money from them and once the person refuses to give money then file cases against them. The police investigation will bring out the true details, sources added.
