Mumbai: Mumbaikar’s response to celebrating Ganeshotsav during the Corona crisis has been praised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and everyone. Mumbaikars celebrated their favourite festival while abiding by the Covid-19 guidelines and with safety precautions. From Ganesh Chaturthi to Anant Chaturthi every day events were held peacefully.
During this year’s Ganeshotsav 70 natural idol immersion spots as well as 119 artificial idol immersion tanks were located and all over 1.35 Lac Ganesh idols were immersed. Meanwhile people preferred immersing their idols in artificial immersion tanks. About 70, 233 Ganesh idols were immersed in these tanks.
Before the Ganeshotsav began Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had appealed to the masses to take special care as due to the fear of the ongoing Corona crisis. BMC issued guidelines after the Chief Minister’s appeal. The citizens and Ganesh pandals followed each and every guideline and gave cooperation and showcased the Mumbai spirit once again.
Mayor Kishori Pednekar and BMC municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal expressed their gratitude towards the services of Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, Navy, Media houses and several voluntary organisations who cooperated during the festival.
BMC had provided required Machinery during the festival servicing Mumbaikars. On various Chowpatty’s 786 steel plates were situated 237 Welcome gates and 219 control rooms were made. 812 Life guards, 142 motorboats, 154 first aid facilities, 81 ambulances were provided. According to requirement safety barricades were also located.
During last year 1, 96, 483 lakh idols were immersed in natural immersion ponds and tanks and 33,925 idols were immersed in artificial ponds. Due to the Corona crisis and Lockdown the number of immersion of idols decreased down to just overall 1.35lakh idols only.
