Mumbai: In a strong and unequivocal statement during the proceedings of the Maharashtra State Legislative Council, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the recent assault incident involving Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad. The CM stated that such behaviour was not only unacceptable but also deeply dishonourable for anyone holding a public office.
While addressing the Council, Fadnavis said, “Such behavior is unacceptable and not honourable for anyone.” He further emphasized that the actions of MLA Gaikwad have brought disrepute not just to himself but to the entire fraternity of elected representatives. “Gaikwad’s actions as an MLA have tarnished the reputation of all legislators,” he remarked.
The incident, which reportedly involved Gaikwad physically assaulting a local official, has sparked criticism across party lines. Fadnavis underlined the importance of maintaining dignity and discipline in public life and stressed the need for holding public representatives accountable for their actions.
