Mira Road Crane Collapse: Victim’s Father Says Police Delayed FIR Against Builder, Claims He Waited Nearly 5 Hours

A fresh controversy has emerged following the fatal crane collapse at a construction site in Mira Road, with the father of the deceased alleging that police refused to immediately register an FIR against the builder despite his complaint. The allegations triggered protests outside Kashigaon Police Station as family members and supporters demanded strict action.

Father Alleges Delay in Registering Complaint

The father of 21-year-old Mujammil Khokhar, who died in Thursday’s crane collapse, claimed he spent nearly five hours at the police station seeking registration of an FIR against the builder.

In a video circulating on social media, the grieving father alleged that while police asked him to file a complaint to obtain his son’s body, they did not register the FIR after he named the builder.”My son was just passing by when the crane fell on him. He died on the spot. When we asked for his body, the police told me to file an FIR. But when I named the builder, they refused to register it. I’ve been waiting here for four hours,” he said.

Protest Outside Police Station

The family’s allegations led to a protest outside Kashigaon Police Station, where relatives and local residents demanded immediate criminal action against those responsible for the accident.

Protesters accused the police of delaying the legal process and appealed to senior officers, including the Police Commissioner, to intervene. They also warned that they would move the Bombay High Court if no action was taken.

Crane Collapse Claimed One Life

The accident occurred on Thursday evening at an under-construction building inside the JP North complex in Mira Road, where a construction crane reportedly collapsed from the 13th floor.

The crane crashed onto the road below, damaging several parked vehicles and trapping people underneath. Mujammil Khokhar, who was reportedly passing through the area, sustained critical injuries and was declared dead after being taken to hospital. Three other people were injured, while multiple two-wheelers and four-wheelers were damaged.

Investigation Continues

Fire brigade personnel, police and civic authorities carried out rescue and debris removal operations after the collapse.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crane failure. Meanwhile, the victim’s family has continued to demand that criminal proceedings be initiated against the builder, alleging negligence led to the fatal incident.
