Maharashtra Health Minister Dr. Rajesh Tope has said that the state needs to appoint oxygen Nurses to curb wastage of oxygen and to maintain data of oxygen storage at hospitals. He gave the example of Nandurbar district which adopted the good practice of appointing oxygen nurses in the year 2020.
He said the Maharashtra government has decided to appoint oxygen nurses due to the widening demand- supply gap for oxygen. The primary job of an oxygen nurse is to monitor the requirement of oxygen every 2-4 hours round the clock, its use among patients and to ensure minimum wastage.
Instruction has been issued to all government medical colleges and hospitals to set up a dedicated team of nurses. Earlier, one nurse was attending to 45-50 patients but in future one oxygen nurse will attend to 15 – 20 patients.
