Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the State Government is committed to the progress of every section of the OBC community and will not be reluctant to provide funds for them. He directed the concerned secretaries to take immediate action and report on the pending issues of the OBC community. On behalf of OBC Janamorcha, a delegation led by former MLA Prakash Shendge called on the Chief Minister yesterday in Mumbai.

Speaking on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that immediate action should be taken to start sub-centres of Mahajyoti Skill Training Institute at divisional level and to appoint independent staff-officers to Mahajyoti. The delegation demanded that the state should conduct a caste-wise census on the lines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

In this context, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said, empirical data has been demanded from the Centre. He also said, there is an option to make the data available through the commission. Minister Vijay Vadettiwar said, the decision has already been taken to start 72 hostels for OBC students and they will be started soon.

The meeting also discussed political reservations in local bodies, tuition fees and scholarships for OBCs, bogus certificates in caste verification.
