“Literate Kupwara, Empowered Nation — Where Each One, Teach Ten”: 7,880 Adults Participate in District-Wide Literacy Assessment

Kupwara: In a remarkable stride toward eradicating illiteracy, District Kupwara successfully conducted the 3rd Phase of the Foundation Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Test (FLNAT) today under the Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram and the ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All Sections of Society) initiative.

The assessment took place across 478 Samajik Chetna Kendras, with 7,880 non-literate adult learners participating enthusiastically, demonstrating Kupwara’s collective commitment to becoming a literate and empowered district. Each center was supervised by a dedicated team of teachers and volunteer teachers, assisted by a seven-member zonal monitoring team and a nine-member District Monitoring Team led by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kupwara, Mr. Mehraj U Din Shah.

Describing the day as more than an assessment, the CEO said it was a festival of learning, where adult learners engaged with confidence, hope, and enthusiasm. “This initiative reflects a growing awareness and commitment toward building an inclusive, literate, and progressive society,” he noted.

Mr. Shah extended heartfelt gratitude to all teachers, volunteer teachers, administrative staff, and stakeholders, highlighting their role in the successful implementation of this district-wide literacy program. Special appreciation was given to DEPO Kupwara, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Shah, and Deputy CEO Kupwara, Mr. Rafiq Ahmad Mir, for their exemplary administrative coordination. Principals, Zonal Education Officers, and Zonal Coordinators of ULLAS were lauded for their tireless efforts and effective ground-level management.

The volunteer teachers were recognized as the backbone of this initiative, praised for their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to spreading literacy and empowerment throughout the district.

Additionally, officers from the CEO Office Kupwara, Samagra Shiksha, and other associated stakeholders ensured smooth logistics, effective planning, and seamless execution of the assessment.

District Coordinator Kupwara, Mr. Javeed Abdullah, reinforced the mission’s vision, stating, “Together, we march toward a Literate Kupwara and an Empowered Nation.” The initiative embodies the spirit of “Each One, Teach Ten”, inspiring change and igniting the flame of knowledge in every corner of the district.
