Kiren Rijiju Faces Backlash Over Fake Video Claim of Pakistani Politician’s ‘India Parliament’ Remark

New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has come under heavy political fire after sharing a misleading video that allegedly showed a Pakistani politician claiming “our people are sitting in India’s Parliament.” The video, which was later identified as morphed, sparked immediate criticism from opposition leaders who accused Rijiju of amplifying misinformation for political mileage.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Rijiju asked, “Why did a Pakistani politician say, ‘Our people are sitting in India’s Parliament’?” The remark set off a flurry of reactions, with political leaders calling out the Union Minister for falling for a clearly doctored clip.

TMC MP Saket Gokhale was among the first to respond, taking a sarcastic dig: “Rijiju ji trusts what a Pakistani politician says. But the Opposition should ignore Trump when he says he brokered a ceasefire. For Modi’s minister, a Pakistani politician is MORE credible than the US President.” He added, “Perhaps that’s what he meant by ‘our people in India’s Parliament’.”

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera took an even sharper tone, alleging that Rijiju was knowingly spreading disinformation. “Looks like Kiren Rijiju is auditioning for Amit Malviya’s job,” he said, referring to the BJP IT cell head. “Since yesterday, he has been parroting claims based on an AI-morphed video pushed by a low-IQ BJP IT cell member.”

Khera further linked Rijiju’s move to past diplomatic incidents. “The truth is, Rijiju fell for the fake video only because he knows that S. Jaishankar had informed Pakistan before Operation Sindoor, and Rajnath Singh admitted to calling them for a ceasefire 30 minutes after it began,” he claimed.

According to Khera, the Minister had previously deleted a similar tweet after being confronted with facts but reposted it anyway. “It’s pathetic that a Minister can’t tell a real video from an obvious fake. Such sub-zero IQ is only appropriate for the IT cell — and now perhaps for Modi’s cabinet too,” he added.
