A family dispute over a new iPhone ended in a devastating tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, where three members of a family died after falling from a hill, according to media reports.
The incident took place on Friday in the Tisgaon area under Waluj MIDC police jurisdiction. The deceased were identified as 48-year-old Murlidhar Chandgude, his wife Sangita, and their 19-year-old son Kunal, who lived in the Zalta Phata area.
Argument Over iPhone Leads to Tragic Incident
According to police, the incident began after Kunal reportedly argued with his parents over his demand for a new mobile phone. Following the dispute, he went towards a hill in the area.
His parents followed him after becoming concerned about his safety. Police, firefighters and local residents were later alerted and reached the location.
Rescuers reportedly spent considerable time trying to convince Kunal to move away from the edge. A safety net was also arranged below the approximately 400–500-foot-high cliff.
However, rescuers faced difficulties as Kunal reportedly moved along the edge of the hill whenever they tried to position the safety equipment.
Father Tries to Save Son, Both Fall
The situation took a tragic turn when Murlidhar approached his son in an attempt to stop him.
Kunal reportedly fell from the hill, and his father tried to save him. During the attempt, Murlidhar also lost his balance and fell.
Both father and son died in the fall.
Mother Dies Moments Later
The tragedy became even more devastating when Sangita saw her husband and son fall from the hill.
According to police, she then jumped from the same location and died.
Police and fire brigade teams recovered the bodies and sent them for the necessary procedures. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The incident has highlighted how a family dispute over a material demand can escalate into an irreversible tragedy. The exact sequence of events and circumstances leading to Kunal’s actions are being investigated by authorities.
