India Emerging as Global Education Hub: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Confirms 9 Foreign Universities Set to Begin Classes Soon

Mumbai: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday reaffirmed India’s position as a rising global education powerhouse, citing the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which has paved the way for leading foreign universities to set up campuses in the country.

Speaking at an education summit in Mumbai, Pradhan shared a major update on the internationalization of Indian education.

“NEP 2020 had a provision that commits to internationalising Indian education. In line with that, we amended the guidelines under UGC regarding foreign universities,” he said.

He confirmed that nine international universities have already entered India and are expected to begin the teaching process by the next academic year.

“By the next academic year, all of them will start the teaching process in India. Six more foreign universities are in the pipeline,” he added.

Highlighting the global credibility of these institutions, the minister noted: “Our policy has attracted quality foreign universities within the top 500 in global rankings. A lot of them are within the top 100. This means that India is now seen as a destination for education and knowledge.”
