Mumbai: Known for its scientific acumen and the ‘go to’ premier scientific institution in the country IIT Bombay has developed a mobile application which will help the authorities keep a tab on quarantine Corona patients. The application named CORONTINE was released by the IIT-B scientists recently for use by Health and Law Enforcement authorites.
A team of scientists at IIT Bombay along with experienced alumni, has built a platform, named CORONTINE, to track potential or suspected (asymptomatic) carriers. The App is flexible, comprehensive, scalable and ready-to-use. The CORONTINE platform and App can be helpful to authorities to register the asymptomatic carriers and track them to check if they confine to their quarantined zones.
CORONTINE allows to geo-fence and automatically generates alerts (SMS, email, etc) if users move out of the quarantined zone. The CORONTINE platform provides for organising zones into regions and several other such features. It is extremely customizable to the needs of the agencies.
According to the IIT-B Spokesperson, “The authorities need to feed in the details of the patient to be monitored during quarantine just like one registers on any mobile Application. One has to enter the details like user name, location, area of quarantine. The Corontine app is installed on the mobile of Asymptomatic Carriers (AC) by an Authorized Agency (AA).
The app sends GPS coordinates of the mobiles periodically to a server under the supervision of AA. If a user leaves a specified quarantined zone marked by a geo-fence, it will be auto-detected.” As of now, the App supported languages are English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Nepali, Telugu, Bengali. The IIB-B authorities have approached Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for approval to the App to be used on large scale. Once approved by the BMC, the App can be downloaded and installed like any other mobile App.
