“If Mamata Banerjee Wants Rejinagar, I Guarantee Her Victory”: Humayun Kabir’s Political Offer Sparks Buzz

A fresh twist has emerged in West Bengal politics after AJUP MLA Humayun Kabir publicly offered support to Mamata Banerjee should she decide to contest from the Rejinagar Assembly constituency.

Making a striking political statement, Kabir claimed that Rejinagar would be a secure electoral option for Banerjee if she seeks a return to the state Assembly. “In Rejinagar, Humayun Kabir is the last word. If Mamata Banerjee personally expresses her desire to contest from this seat, I guarantee her victory from the constituency,” he said.

The AJUP legislator also took a swipe at Bhabanipur, asserting that the constituency may no longer be the ideal choice for the Trinamool Congress supremo.

Kabir’s remarks have attracted attention because of his long political association with Banerjee. Reflecting on his political journey, the former TMC leader credited Banerjee for his rise in public life and described the offer as a gesture of gratitude.

Whatever position I hold today is because of Mamata Banerjee. Seeing the challenges she is facing hurts me. If I can help her return to the Assembly, it will be my Gurudakshina to my former leader,” Kabir stated.

The Rejinagar seat became vacant after Kabir won both Rejinagar and Nowda in the Assembly elections and later chose to retain the Nowda constituency. Earlier, there had been speculation that a member of his family could contest from the vacated seat.

Meanwhile, political uncertainty continues within sections of the Trinamool Congress amid ongoing internal disagreements. Rebel TMC MLA Gulshan Mullick voiced dissatisfaction over reports regarding Banerjee’s prospective role within a reorganised party structure.

We were given the impression that Mamata Banerjee would lead the party. If she is offered only an advisory role, I will have to reconsider my position,” Mullick said.
