New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi argued that the historic farm laws are creating opportunities for farming and farmers to move from the role of (Annadatta) food provider to Entrepreneur.
In his address after releasing the autobiography of Loknete Padma Bhushan, Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil through video conferencing on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said that the model of local economy and local enterprise will take the county forward.
Citing shining examples of such local models, he spoke about the revolution that happened in the sugar industry in Maharashtra, white revolution in the milk industry in Gujarat and in wheat production in Punjab and Haryana.
The Prime Minister said a phase was witnessed after independence where there was not enough food to distribute among its people in the country. He added that during such circumstances, the priority of the government was to see how the crop productivity is boosted.
He said, hence the government focused mainly on what crop the farmers should produce and how to get more yield. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the farmers’ toiled and ensured that more harvest was produced to fulfill the county’s requirement.
Prime Minister Modi underlined that while doing so the government could not pay attention to the profitability of the farmers. He said for the first time this mindset has changed. For the first time the country has shown concern for the income of farmers, and is taking steps to increase his income, be it by providing Minimum Support Price (MSP) or hiking it, neem coating of urea or providing a better Fasal Bima Yojana. By doing so, the government has tried to address all the issues of the farmers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said the Kisaan Samman Nidhi Yojana has helped farmers’ because of which they do not have to borrow loans of small amounts from anyone.

He said one lakh crore rupees have been transferred into the bank accounts of the farmers’ through PM Kisaan Samman Nidhi Yojana without any interference of a middleman.
The Prime Minister also stressed on amalgamating the old and new farming techniques for better productivity.
PM Modi said that through the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, 26 projects which were pending for years in Maharashtra were expedited and completed. Out of these 26, nine projects have already been completed, and with their completion almost five lakh hectares of land has got the benefit of irrigation.
Similarly, he said, in July 2018, work began on 90 small and big irrigation projects and in next two-three years, when the work gets completed then approximately 4 lakh hectares of land will come under irrigation.
The PM said, there are 13 districts in Maharashtra where the groundwater level is very low and in these districts, Atal Bhujal Yojana is being implemented.
He said, in last one year, 19 lakh families were provided pure drinking water in Maharashtra through the Jal Jeevan Mission. Out of these, 13 lakh families were provided potable drinking water in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic.
