Five Global Universities to Set Up Campuses in Maharashtra: CM Devendra Fadnavis at Mumbai Rising Event

Mumbai: In a major boost to higher education and international collaboration, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that five prestigious foreign universities have received the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Letter of Intent to set up campuses in the state.

Speaking at the Mumbai Rising event, Fadnavis shared the transformative news: “UGC has given a letter of intent to five universities. Their campuses will be constructed in Maharashtra. The five universities are the University of Aberdeen, the University of York, the Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Western Australia, and the IED European Institute of Design.”

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the New Education Policy (NEP) for creating the framework that is now allowing globally reputed institutions to establish a direct presence in India.

“Under PM Modi, NEP has opened doors for knowledge in India,” the Chief Minister added, emphasizing how the new policy is revolutionizing access to world-class education without the need for Indian students to go abroad.
