Due to continuous successful follow-up by local MP in getting facility in the twin cities which has ability to perform 3000 tests daily
Mumbai: To check the increasing spread of coronavirus in the twin cities of Kalyan-Dombivali the first Covid-19 testing lab is coming up in Kalyan with a testing capacity of 3,000 samples per day. This lab will start functioning after center’s approval in a week, said Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Shrikant Shinde.
Talking to Thenews21, Dr Shrikant Shinde said, “I had to do a continuous follow-up to get this lab sanctioned. The lab will come at Gauripada, Kalyan West under PPP (public-private-partnership) basis with Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation and Krishna Diagnostics. Patients referred by KDMC will be tested free, whereas private patients’ tests will be done at government approved rate”.

“This is the first facility in Thane district apart from the TMC (Thane municipal corporation) facility so it would be helpful for the other cities like Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur and Bhiwandi”, said Dr Shrikant Shinde. He further added “I am also trying to get testing labs for Bhiwandi and Ulhasnagar municipal corporation areas, and one for the rural area of Ambernath, Badlapur and Kulgaon. Early detection can reduce fatality as well as the spread and that is the reason I am doing this. The time for availability of results of Covid-19 tests will be reduced and treatment of patients will be expedited”.
On this occasion Mayor Vinita Rane, Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi, former Mayor and local corporator Rajendra Devalekar, corporator Vishwanath Rane and municipal officials were present.
The necessary equipment has been made available through crushing diagnostics. The lab will be operational within the next week after approval by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).
