Ex MLA Krishna Hegde asks for Velankanni to be included in list of CM Teerth Darshan yojana

Mumbai: Former MLA Krishna Hegde, deputy leader and spokesperson of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has written to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde requesting him to kindly consider including the shrine at Velankanni in Tamil Nadu which is one of the most religious places for Christians across India in the list for Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana (MTDY) of the Maharashtra Government.

Presently senior citizens above the age of 60 years, who are residents of Maharashtra with an annual income less than Rs 2.5 lakhs can avail the benefits of the scheme. The senior citizen should be eligible within the criteria set up by the government for the Yojana. This scheme is meant for senior citizens who cannot afford travel expenses and are from poor families.

They can avail travel benefits up to Rs 30000 once in a lifetime, free stay and meals in this scheme and visit 73 religious places across the country which are included in the list. They can also avail free medical assistance they require during the days of their travel. In addition, the list also includes 66 religious places within Maharashtra.

Krishna Hegde has also requested the Union Railway Minister to start a special train to Velankanni via Goa at the time of the feast. Lakhs of devotees from Maharashtra visit the Velankanni shrine during the feast every year.
