The Election Commission of India unveiled the election schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in five significant states: Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. These legislative assemblies collectively constitute one-sixth of the total assemblies in the nation, making these elections a pivotal step ahead of the anticipated Lok Sabha Elections in 2024.

Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar, addressed the media to announce the election schedule. During his briefing, Kumar provided details on the polling dates for each state.

  • Mizoram: The state of Mizoram will go to the polls on November 7.
  • Chhattisgarh: Chhattisgarh will have elections in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for November 7 and the second phase set for November 17.
  • Madhya Pradesh: Madhya Pradesh will conduct single-phase polls on November 17.
  • Rajasthan: Rajasthan will also hold single-phase polls on November 23.
  • Telangana: The state of Telangana will witness a single-phase polling process on November 30.

The counting of votes for all the poll-bound states will take place on December 3, with results expected to be announced on the same day.

These elections carry significant political implications as they will determine the composition of the legislative assemblies in these states. The outcomes could have repercussions on the political landscape in India and shape the course of national politics, especially with the Lok Sabha Elections scheduled for the following year.

Political parties, candidates, and voters in these states are now gearing up for the upcoming electoral process, which will be closely watched by both national and international observers. The Election Commission of India has pledged to ensure free and fair elections, further strengthening India’s democratic traditions.
