Legislative Council, Deputy Chairperson and Stree Adhar Kendra founder Dr. Neelam Gorhe on Wednesday stressed upon the need for all Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to share and document the work experiences about women empowerment. Addressing a conference on movements for women empowerment in Pune, she spoke about the efforts put in to take the voices of the grassroots women to the government and strong advocacy for their voices to be heard.
She said that in 2020, the global community marks the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), and reaching the five-year milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
To trace this journey and document the processes and impact of women’s participation, Development Support Team and Stree Adhar Kendra, Pune brought together the grassroot NGOs and CSOs on 24th December 2019 at Pune. The event saw participation of 70 delegates from 40 NGOs, Academia and CSR Foundations from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
The Development Support Team shared the need to understand the historical perspectives of the women’s movement and its linkage with the MDGs and SDGs. Minar Pimple, Executive coach and consultant development sector emphasized on the key principals of Equality, Inclusion and Participation of women in all spheres of development.
With eminent speakers like Seema Kulkarni, MAKAM, Anita Paul, Pan Himalayan Grassroots Development Foundation, Ajay Jha, PAIRVI, New Delhi and Dr. Neelam Gorhe shared their views on Policy and mechanisms for Advancement of Women, Sustainable Livelihoods, Women and Environment and Violence against Women. The workshop concluded with a message on a collaborative effort for making a greater impact through community effort.
