Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi by ₹3.89 per kg, with the revised rate coming into effect from 6:00 am on August 29, 2026.
The company said the price adjustment has been made to partly absorb the rise in input gas costs amid significant volatility in international energy markets.
The revision comes as global spot Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices have risen sharply. According to IGL, disruptions to LNG cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions in West Asia have contributed to the surge, while stronger European demand ahead of winter has added further pressure.
Delhi CNG Prices Rise Gradually Despite Global Gas Surge
IGL said the impact of the international price shock has been relatively limited for Indian consumers. Delhi’s retail CNG price has increased from ₹77.09 per kg to ₹83.09 per kg, representing a rise of around 7.8%.
In comparison, the European TTF gas benchmark climbed from approximately $11.36/MMBTU to $23.35/MMBTU, an increase of around 105%.
The Asian JKM LNG benchmark also witnessed a major jump, rising from approximately $10.99/MMBTU to $23.41/MMBTU, marking an increase of nearly 113%.
Why Has IGL Increased CNG Prices?
IGL attributed the revision to rising gas procurement costs and increased dependence on imported spot LNG to meet the growing demand for CNG.
India’s economic expansion and rising consumption have increased the need for imported gas, particularly when domestic supplies are insufficient to meet demand.
The company said its latest price adjustment was calibrated to partially offset these higher costs while maintaining the reliability of CNG supplies.
IGL Says Delhi CNG Remains Relatively Affordable
Despite the sharp movement in global gas prices, IGL maintained that it has largely shielded Indian consumers from the full impact of the international energy crisis.
The company said Delhi continues to have among the lowest retail CNG prices globally when compared with other gas-importing markets.
The latest increase is expected to affect daily commuters, auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, private vehicle owners and public transport fleets using CNG.
IGL Reaffirms Focus on Affordable CNG Supply
IGL said it would continue working on strategic sourcing and cost optimisation to manage fluctuations in international gas prices.
The company also reiterated its commitment to keeping CNG an economical, cleaner and dependable fuel option for auto-rickshaws, taxis, private vehicles and public transport.
The ₹3.89 per kg increase will apply from 6:00 am on August 29, marking the latest change in Delhi’s CNG retail pricing amid continued volatility in global LNG markets.
