Cyclone Tauktae likely to intensify into very severe cyclonic storm: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that Cyclone Tauktae is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and will cross the Gujarat coast today morning.

IMD tweeted that he CS Tauktae lay centred at 2330 IST of 15th May over Arabian Sea about 170 km southwest of Panjim-Goa, 520 km south of Mumbai.

It is very likely to intensify into a VSCS, cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva (Bhavnagar district) around today early morning.

AIR correspondent reports, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai is taking several precautionary measures in view of India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning that Cyclone Tauktae is likely to pass close to the city today.

The BMC on Saturday night shifted 580 patients from jumbo Covid-19 facilities to state and civic-run hospitals in Mumbai.

BMC on friday ed the hospitals to avoid last-minute confusion over beds and availability of oxygen devices.

It also reviewed preparations of the jumbo Covid-19 hospitals and other agencies.

It asked hospitals to keep generators and other alternative systems operational in case of a power outage.

According to BMC officials, around 40 ambulances were deployed to shift the patients in phases.

Rain and lightening were reported in some places of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad.

Meanwhile, IMD has issued warning for fishermen near coastal areas.

All ports in Gujarat have been asked to hoist a signal to warn fishermen against venturing into the sea.
