Communist Parties Condemn US Airstrike on Iran

Mumbai: Five major communist parties in India have strongly condemned the recent US-led airstrike on Iran, calling it a direct assault on Iran’s sovereignty and a violation of the UN Charter.

In a joint statement issued by CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, CPI General Secretary D. Raja, CPI(ML) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, RSP General Secretary Manoj Bhattacharya, and Forward Bloc General Secretary G. Devarajan, the leaders warned that the attack could escalate into a global war and lead to serious economic consequences worldwide.

The leaders rejected the justification provided by the US and Israel — that Iran is developing nuclear weapons — and instead cited the June 19 statement of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, who affirmed that there is “no conclusive evidence that Iran is making a systematic effort to build a nuclear bomb.”

They further noted that Iran remains a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and US intelligence agencies themselves have admitted they lack definitive proof of an Iranian nuclear weapons program.

The statement criticised the Israeli strike on June 12, saying it had effectively shut the door on any diplomatic talks, especially after US President Donald Trump had publicly given a two-week window for negotiations.

“This joint aggression by the US and Israel reveals their intent to dominate West Asia, destroy Iran, and control the global oil markets,” the leaders alleged. They also called the use of B-2 stealth bombers reminiscent of the Iraq invasion based on fabricated intelligence.

They warned that this war would disproportionately harm the working class and countries like India that depend heavily on West Asia for oil and employment.

The statement urged the Government of India to abandon pro-US and pro-Israel foreign policy alignments and instead join global peace efforts to stop the war.
