Mumbai: It seems as though the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has forgotten that the post of City Engineer is important for the overall development of a city, that is why the responsibility of the post of City Engineer in Navi Mumbai has been entrusted to the Executive Engineer for the last 2 years. This has been revealed from the information provided by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to RTI activist Anil Galgali.

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought various information from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation regarding the post of the City Engineer. Uttam Kharat, Administrative Officer of the General Administration Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, has given Anil Galgali a copy of the April 2, 2021 order of the then Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

In this sequence, it is mentioned that Surendra Vasudev Patil, working as City Engineer in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, has retired on March 31, 2021 as per the prescribed age. Therefore, for the convenience of administrative work and in the interest of public service, Executive Engineer Sanjay Gopal Desai has to look after the work of the parent department and also the additional charge of the vacant post of City Engineer till further orders.

Kharat has claimed that the copy of approval of the government while giving additional charge, copy of advertisement regarding the maximum period of additional charge, copy of correspondence with the government for sending officers on deputation is not available on record.

Anil Galgali has written a letter to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, demanding an inquiry, saying that what is the intention behind implementing an important post like City Engineer on additional charge for the last 2 years? Anil Galgali has demanded that the government should appoint a qualified officer for this post with immediate effect.
