China wants Indian media to not provide Taiwan any platform

Even as Beijing continues to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring nations, including India, it wants New Delhi to recognize and adhere to the ‘One-China policy’. New Delhi: In an attempted move to block Taiwan from having an outreach with the Indian media, Beijing has asked New Delhi’s domestic news agencies to not provide any communication platform to Taipei and its diplomats, which would recognize and advocate Taiwan’s democratic identity. The move comes after few prominent Indian news sources published an article on August 25, penned by the Head of the Taiwanese Foreign Relations Department, Jaushieh Wu.

In his article, Wu has openly commented on Taiwan’s independence and advocated on Taipei’s participation in the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Spurned by the article, the Chinese Embassy in India severely opposed the publication of Wu’s words upholding Taiwanese democracy. In attempts to counter the article, the embassy released an official statement on the same day itself.

The release signed by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in India Counselor Ji Rong refuted the wrong arguments and attempted to defend Beijing’s principle and position.

The release read, ‘we (China) urge the relevant Indian media to take a correct stance on issues of core interests concerning China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adhere to the One-China principle, not to provide a platform for “Taiwan independence” forces, and avoid sending wrong messages to the public.’

It further read, ‘Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People’s Republic of China, which is a fact that no one and no force could change.’ Citing the 1945 – War of Resistance, the release claimed that ‘Taiwan was thus recovered and returned to China.’ However, the Chinese diplomat in the statement agreed that since 1949, the two sides of the Taiwan Strait have yet to be reunified.

The official statement from Beijing’s diplomatic mission in India reminded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government and Indian media to recognize the One-China policy, even as China continues to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of New Delhi and other neighboring nations – be it land or water.

In moves to dictate its terms on Taiwanese diplomatic actions, the release stated that ‘there is no such issue of Taiwan joining the UN. Any questions about Taiwan’s participation in international organizations including the WHO must be arranged under the One-China principle.’

An imperialist China, which pays no heed to any international law threatened Indian media and administration that it has ‘a firm will, full confidence and sufficient capabilities to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will never tolerate any attempt to split the country or any interference in China’s internal affairs by any external force.’
