Mumbai: Shiv Sena on Tuesday moved a breach of privilege motion against senior journalist and editor-in-chief of Republic TV Arnab Goswami in the legislative assembly. The breach of privilege motion was moved by Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik in the assembly and it was supported by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab.

Moving the motion Shiv Sena legislator Pratap Sarnaik argued that the words used by Goswami during his TV debates against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar were deemed inappropriate. The BJP however, opposed the motion and created ruckus after which deputy speaker Narhari Zhirval adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

While moving the motion in the Lower House Sarnaik said, “The way Republic Tv’s Arnab Goswami has used the language against Sharad Pawar, CM Uddhav Thackeray in many of the debate programs in his channel, he has used the language against CM Thackeray and Pawar. I condemn it.”

“On the name of independent media, he has tried to malign the image of CM Thackeray, Pawar  and others,” said Sarnaik and added, “So I demand strict action must be taken. The Speaker Narhari Zhirwal has in this regard said that suitable action will be taken against this (Arnab Goswami).

Anil Parab also said, “He himself thinks he is a judge, when he thinks himself as a judge and the way he uses words against CM Uddhav Thackeray ji and Sharad Pawar ji as ye Uddhav Thackeray, Ye Sharad Pawar.”

“Action must be taken against him. This House has the power to make a law to protest journalists. So we can also take action against such journalists who used derogatory words against the minister,” Parab demanded.

“If any such language is used against the Prime Minister then action can be taken. Then why not take action against the Chief Minister?” Parab questioned.

Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) created ruckus on Parab’s statement.

Parab wanted to know from the opposition that “you (BJP) gets angry when someone targets the PM and you people don’t get angry when the CM is insulted”.

He has used the word Supari (slang for contract) and he is working accordingly, contended Parab.

Following which BJP created ruckus in the house on the issue. The proceedings of the house adjourned for 10 minutes following the ruckus of the opposition ruckus.
