BJP MP Nirahua Slams Language Politics in Maharashtra, Dares Politicians to Evict Him for Not Speaking Marathi

Mumbai: Bhojpuri film superstar and BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, has stirred the political landscape in Maharashtra with a fiery statement condemning the recent spate of linguistic chauvinism. While promoting his upcoming film Hamar Naam Ba Kanhaiya, Nirahua took a direct stand against what he called the “dirty politics” of forcing language as a means of exclusion.

Referring to recent incidents in the state where individuals were targeted for not speaking Marathi, Nirahua issued a bold challenge: “Kisi mein dum hai toh humko Maharashtra se nikaal ke dikhaye (If anyone has the courage, let them try to evict me from Maharashtra). I don’t speak Marathi and I live here. I challenge all politicians — try and throw me out.”

The actor-MP emphasized that India’s strength lies in its linguistic and cultural diversity. “India is a bouquet of languages — Bhojpuri, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, and more. All are beautiful. People should learn as many as they can, but no one should be forced to speak a particular language,” he said.

He added that while Marathi is indeed a beautiful language, it should be promoted through love and education, not coercion. “Politics should serve the public, not divide them,” Nirahua stated, calling out those who weaponize language to gain political mileage.

The controversy follows a recent viral video in which Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers were seen physically assaulting a restaurant owner in Mumbai’s Mira Road area for not communicating in Marathi. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with actor Ranvir Shorey calling it “sickening” and questioning the law and order situation.

Nirahua’s statements come in the wake of growing criticism against the MNS’s aggressive stance on the Marathi language. A few weeks ago, investor Sushil Kedia’s office in Worli was allegedly vandalised after he publicly questioned MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s position on language imposition.
