BJP corporator demands BMC conduct antibody test for its citizens

Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Prakash Gangadhare has written a letter to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner (BMC) Iqbal Singh Chahal requesting him to conduct the antibody test (Serological survey test) of the citizens in order to ascertain whether they were affected by Corona. 

According to Gangadhare, citizens are in ambiguous situations and fear and wanted to know whether they were affected by the Coronavirus. With the arrival of the report of the antibody test it will be clear that that was affected with Corona. If the report of the antibody test comes positive that means the person was affected by Corona and his body has prepared antibodies to fight against the virus. 

But at the same time if a person tested negative for the antibody test but was tested corona positive that means the BMC or the private labs have given a fake report strict actions should be taken against sub labs and hospitals.

“People are in extreme fear and confused so they wanted to go for the antibody test to ascertain whether they were affected with corona or not. For this, I have written a letter to the BMC commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal requesting him to conduct the antibody test on citizens. The report of the antibody test comes positive then that means the body of the person’s body has developed antibody to fight against the virus and if any person whose report comes negative but was previously tested corona positive that means there is something fishy is going on in that particular hospital or laboratory. If such private or government labs are found guilty then strict actions have to be taken against them”, said Prakash Gangadhare, BJP corporator. 

What is an antibody test?

Antibody tests check your blood by looking for antibodies, which may tell you if a person had a past infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections and can provide protection against getting that disease again (immunity). 

Except in instances in which viral testing is delayed, antibody tests should not be used to diagnose a current COVID-19 infection. An antibody test may not show if you have a current COVID-19 infection because it can take 1–3 weeks after infection for your body to make antibodies. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test. Viral tests identify the virus in samples from your respiratory system, such as a swab from the inside of your nose.-By Vikas Nag
