A Bangladeshi student has been asked to leave India who is studying in Visva Bharati University in West Bengal’s Santiniketan.  As per the news reports she has been allegedly involved in “anti-government activities”. The notice is known to have been served by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to a report, she received the ‘Leave India Notice’– dated February 14– on Wednesday. She then approached Foreign Regional Registration Registration Office (FRRO) officer Karma Tshering Bhutia for the review request.

“Afsara Anika Meem… Bangladeshi national, is present in India on the strength of S-1 (Student) visa…studying at Viswa Bharati University… she is found to have engaged in anti-government activities. And such activity being a breach of her visa, has thus committed visa violation…,” The Indian Express quoted the notice as saying.

The letter, however, does not specify the “anti-India activities” she had engaged in.

As per the reports, Meem has been uploading images on her social media of rallies taken out on the campus to protest against Citizenship Amendment Act, in December last year. However, the preliminary inquiry suggests that due to her social media posts she got the notice.
