Mumbai: Close on the heels of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday hinted at more than a week-long lockdown in the state in the wake of raging cases of Covid-19.
In a video message aired today, Tope informed people that the government has not yet imposed the lockdown in the state. However, he said that the state government is seriously contemplating on imposing lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
Tope disclosed that Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has held deliberations with people from various sectors in the last one week and has taken them into confidence over the imposition of the lockdown.
He said, during the all-party meeting too, leaders from the opposition party have been taken into confidence. Tope said, a common ground has been achieved with opposition party leaders on imposing lockdown.
The health minister said, the final decision on lockdown will be taken by the Chief Minister. He said if the lockdown is announced then industries should take care of their workers and appealed the migrant labourers not to leave the state.
Meanwhile, the Chief minister held a meeting with Covid -19 taskforce on the prevailing situation and to take a call on lockdown.
