Union Home Minister Amit Shah has issued a powerful call for the revival and pride in Indian languages, asserting that they are the soul of the nation and essential for understanding India’s heritage. Speaking at a public event, Shah stated that the time has come for Indian society to shed its colonial mindset and embrace native languages with pride and confidence.

“Remember what I say and listen to me carefully. A society where people feel ashamed of speaking English in this country is not far away,” said Shah, emphasising that Indian languages are the jewels of the nation’s culture. “Without them, we are not Indians. You cannot understand our history, culture, and religion in a foreign language. A complete India cannot be imagined with incomplete foreign languages.”

The Home Minister acknowledged the challenges involved in promoting Indian languages but expressed strong confidence in the country’s ability to overcome them. “I am fully aware of how difficult the battle is. I have full faith that the Indian society will win this battle, and with pride in our languages, we will run our country, ideate, research, make decisions and govern the world. There is no need for anyone to doubt this.”

Shah also linked the use and promotion of Indian languages to the larger vision of making India a global leader by 2047 — the centenary year of independence. “Our languages will greatly contribute to us being at the top of the world in 2047,” he affirmed.
