Mumbai: In Maharashtra, the opposition BJP formed a “parallel” legislative assembly in the premises of Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai to protest against the suspension of twelve of its MLAs. Alleging unruly behaviour on the floor of the House, Presiding Officer Bhaskar Jadhav had yesterday suspended the 12 MLAs for a year.
Objecting to the convention of the parallel assembly in the premises of Vidhan Bhavan, Shiv Sena legislator Bhaskar Jadhav asked Speaker In-Charge, Narhari Jhirval to confiscate the mic and loudspeakers which was set up for opposition legislators to express their views.
Bhaskar Jadhav who assumed chair from Jhirval in the role of presiding officer directed the security officials to stop live telecast of parallel assembly on news channels and to confiscate loudspeaker and mic. Adhering to the instructions the security officials of Vidhan Bhavan confiscated the loudspeaker and mic.
Senior Congress legislator Prithviraj Chavan said that the parallel assembly formed in the premises of Vidhan Bhavan was an insult to the legislative assembly.
After the media was asked to stop the live coverage, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis said they were to convene the assembly in the press room housed in the building of Vidhan Bhavan. He said BJP was trying to expose the corruption in the government, anger against the government from OBCs and Marathas.
