The Indian Navy today said that it has not received a request from civil administration for immediate help in Mumbai so far. The Navy has Flood Rescue Teams ready for deployment at each Naval Establishments in Colaba, Worli, Ghatkopar, Mankhurd and Malad for immediate assistance in Mumbai.
Weather permitting, the Navy can operate helicopters (Chetak & Sea King) from Naval Helicopter Base INS Shikra in support of relief and rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the impact of the very severe cyclonic storm Tauktae has been seen in Raigad since morning.
The IMD has sounded a red alert for Raigad district as it will receive extremely heavy rainfall. There was panic among locals due to the strong winds. At many places houses were damaged, trees and electric poles were uprooted.
Due to no power supply, various places in Raigad including famous tourist spots of Alibaug, Murud, Mahad and Roha are in darkness.
Till now, 8360 people have been shifted to safe locations. Despite huge loss to the property there are no reports of any loss of life.
