The Hague/Netherlands: Gandhi Jayanti is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhiji, who taught the world the philosophy of non-violence along with Satyagraha. Today is celebrated around the world as the International Day of Non-Violence. Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1861 in the city of Porbandar in Gujarat. Rabindranath Tagore was the first to confer the title of Mahatma on Gandhiji.
The Sanskrit meaning of the word Mahatma means the great soul. People used to call Gandhiji Bapuji. In 1944, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose called Gandhiji the Father of the Nation.
As we all know, Corona has caused a stir all over the world.
Gandhiji’s principles are well known as to which direction the country would have to go before independence. At present, there is a need to re-implement Gandhian principles.
Such as:
Sarvodaya – care or welfare of all.
Even the Prime Minister of India, while announcing “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”, we see the same concept and principle of Sarvodaya that Gandhiji had implemented and started the rural development work.
According to Gandhiji, Sarvodaya means a system of thought, the welfare of all, and the rise of all. This epidemic of Covid-19 has convinced us that Gandhiji’s Sarvodaya is the care of all, that the principle of Sarvodaya will be followed only if we stayed at home not because of our own safety but also safety of our brothers and sisters around the world.
Non-violence
Gandhiji loved the principle of non-violence more than anything else.
He believed that adherence to the policy of non-violence was not a sign of a coward but of a brave man. Therefore, this non-violent movement became very popular among the common people of India. Gandhi teaches that the one who possess nonviolence is blessed. Ahimsa implies total nonviolence, no physical violence, and no passive violence. Gandhi translates Ahimsa as love.
Swadeshi / Indigenous
Due to the lockdown during Covid 19 and the migration of many workers, small businesses, subsistence workers, hawkers as well as the economic and social life of the people have been affected to a great extent.
Gandhiji’s support was always for various handicrafts, arts, small businesses and he was also teaching children himself. Today, his countrymen are becoming aware of these thoughts while the ashes of unemployment are burning. Bapu introduced the educational concept of 3H. These included Heart, Head and Hand. He said that the development that will take place when these three things come together is the development of the individual and the nation. Today, it is time to put their teachings into practice. Not only are their ideas relevant today, but they are also thought-provoking.
The use of Swadeshi products creates employment and facilitates national economic growth. This shows how consistent Gandhiji’s idea of employment was with the times.
The search for peace
Even some of the most influential countries in the world have been shaken by Covid 19.
Peace is the key to enriching human life; but thinking about the world, religion and hegemony have led to crises. As a result, global unrest ensued.
I think it is very important to remember Gandhiji’s thoughts at that time. Gandhiji’s ideas are still helping the society to maintain peace in the world. Only these ideas need to be accepted in the right place, time, and manner.
Mahatma Gandhi’s mantra ‘Walk to the village’
Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had dreamed of rural development. He believed that the country would develop only if the people of the village developed.
On the one hand, we have seen the rising number of farmer suicides, the growing atrocities against women, and the growing population and so on
In the present system, a desperate man is certainly looking for peace somewhere. In this directionless system, M. who showed the way to peace in the world by keeping the common man at the top. Gandhi is remembered not only in India today but in the whole world. That is why we need to look at their thoughts again.
Also in the agricultural sector there are good salary opportunities in the public and private sectors such as guidance on seedling cultivation, planting and fertilizer to be given to them.
There are opportunities for guidance on the cultivation, conservation and proper conservation of herbs. This shows the truth of Mahatma Gandhi’s message ‘Go to the village’.
“Vaishnava Jan to tene kahiye je peed parai jaane re”
Good poetry nurtures man. The best example of this is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Had he not received the rites of devotional literature, he would not have become Mahatma Gandhi. The main role in their creation is devotional literature. Philosophy, ideology, etc. also play a role in the creation of man. But the most profound and mild effect on him was that of poetry. To examine the influence of devout poets on Gandhi, it is necessary to look at his life-references and writings. According to him, Dharma means ‘self-realization’ or ‘enlightenment’.
As the religious and ethnic frenzy grows, we begin to search for the “inner voice” in Gandhiji’s voice, “Vaishnav Jan to tene kahiye je peed parai jaane re” meaning “the real Vaishnava is the one who understands the suffering of others”. He believed in finding yourself and making a good change in your personality.
Only by changing oneself can society change and that is why Gandhiji says, be the change you want to see in the world.
Gandhi also advised from time to time to stay in tune with the environment by keeping away from exploitative practices as much as possible.
Conclusion
Gandhi’s thoughts and philosophy are still relevant today. If we think objectively on both sides and think that Gandhiji’s thoughts can only survive in today’s time when hatred is growing. Because, Gandhiji’s statement, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”-By Pranita A. Deshpande
