Mumbai: Chief Minister of Delhi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Arvind Kejriwal has urged the party’s Mumbai AAP unit to serve the citizens during the pandemic times. Interacting with the Mumbai AAP team led by Preeti Sharma Menon, he exhorted his party cadre to go door to door and conduct oxygen saturation checks for citizens and make them aware of the likely symptoms of COVID-19 and steps to take to ensure social distancing and hygiene.
The Mumbai AAP team has been going door to door on a COVID-19 Awareness Drive called “Oximitras”. This nationwide activity was launched by Arvind Kejriwal wherein he had exhorted his party cadre to go door to door and conduct oxygen saturation checks for citizens and make them aware of the likely symptoms of COVID-19 and steps to take to ensure social distancing and hygiene.
In the last two weeks AAP Mumbai Oximitras have met nearly 10,000 Mumbai citizens largely in low income, high density areas and advised them on social distancing methods that can be deployed in those constraints. They have distributed masks, checked their oxygen levels, and made them aware of symptoms that need to be watched out for.
Arvind Kejriwal said “The world is going through a very difficult time now and it is our responsibility to reach out to help everyone. AAP volunteers have served citizens by feeding the poor and helping the migrants and the Oximitra campaign is a way through which we can directly save lives. If we can warn a person whose oxygen levels are low to immediately seek help then we can save their life, and even if we can save a few lives that would be a great thing to do. It may be a drop in the ocean but this is our way of augmenting the efforts of the government and other agencies. In Delhi everyone has come together to fight the Pandemic and that is what we must do in Mumbai too”.
He added that his vision for AAP Mumbai was to see an Oximitra Kendra in every booth, because only then would we be able to really provide service to the people of Mumbai.
The Mumbai unit of AAP plans to contest the next Municipal elections and the cadre will now implement Arvind Kejriwal’s advice to build the organisation and ready it for fighting for issues that are causing distress to Mumbaikars.
Preeti Sharma Menon said “The party is now taking its national growth seriously as the country needs an alternative to the corrupt and communal forces that have hijacked the nation. Arvind Kejriwal wants our Mumbai Unit to strive to bring the Delhi Model of Governance to Mumbai and each and every volunteer is now committed to delivering his vision”.
