Unique virtual wedding of BJP councillor’s daughter amidst Covid-19 lockdown

Mumbai: Mindful of the challenges posed by the cap on number of guests that can attend a normal wedding, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Prakash Gangadhare from Borivali East, hit upon a novel idea for his daughter’s wedding – a virtual wedding through Facebook Live. Until now people have heard couples meeting each other on Facebook and then solemnizing their wedding in front of their relatives and guests.

But this was something extra-ordinary and no one appears to have been complaining about it for not being able to attend the wedding in person. Only grouse that the attendees could probably have that they missed out on the sumptuous wedding luncheon.

Fathers like Prakash Gangadhare are well aware that physical marriage could not be held for all to attend amidst the Covid19 imposed lockdown as it would disturb social distancing order. To overcome that problem people have now started streaming their marriage functions through Facebook live.

People are even conducting marriages and birthday celebrations at their homes due to the restrictions brought about by Covid-19. But many rue that they are not being able to enjoy these functions on a lavish scale as they used to do in the past thanks to the guidelines imposed by the government.

BJP councillor Prakash Gangadhare’s daughter Akshada Gangadhare now Akshada Kale’s marriage took place like that. Former Chief Minister and leader of opposition in legislative assembly Devendra Fadnavis visited the Gangadhare’s home and wished Akshada and also complimented saying he liked this idea of celebrating their marriage.

Following lockdown’s guidelines this marriage took place in which leader of opposition leader in legislative council Pravin Darekar, MLA Ashish Shelar and many BJP party workers were present. About 4,000 people and well-wishers saw this unique wedding live.

Speaking to The News 21 Prakash Gangadhare said “Around 4000 to 5000 people attended our virtual wedding and blessed the couple. The wedding was held at Tip Top Plaza in Thane.” He also informed “Our aim was to not postpone the wedding and solemnize it by respecting government’s guidelines. The money which was saved due such wedding was later distributed by way of food in nearby slum areas.” –By Rishikesh Chavan
