Fadnavis announces Rs 10,000 Cr special provision as assistance to farmers who have suffered due to unseasonal rains

Mumbai:

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced a special provision of Rs 10,000 Crore as assistance to farmers who have suffered due to unseasonal rains in the state for the past few days. Disclosing this to newspersons after chairing the cabinet sub-committee meeting, Fadnavis stated that farmers in about 325 tehsils of the 358 tehsils in the state are affected by the recent unseasonal rains in the state.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee approved a special provision of Rs10,000 Crore to assist & give relief to farmers suffering due to unseasonal rains. The Cabinet Sub-Committee also asked officials to finalize details after taking into account the ground report & information. The government has also sought assistance from the insurance companies in speedy disposal of crop insurance claims of farmers.

Fadnavis disclosed that the Spot assessment of crop damage is in progress. He added that even mobile photos presented by farmers are being allowed in ascertaining and determining crop damage. He added that the state government will also be requesting Government of India (GoI) for early assistance. Fadnavis however, added that the government will not wait for the Central assistance and start disbursement of relief assistance from the State relief fund itself.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis was amongst others attended by his ministers Chandrakant Patil, Girish Mahajan, Subhash Deshmukh, Dr. Anil Bonde, Sadabhau Khot, Vijay Shivtare, Dr Suresh Khade, Mahadev Jankar. The tenure of the current cabinet is to expire on November 9. It is not clear as to when the Center will send its team of officials to assess the crop damage due to unseasonal rains.
