India gains momentum in export as labourers play their role even in lockdown situation
Mumbai: On the International Labour Day, when the day is to honour the struggle and strength of labourers, however this year it is totally different, with many labourers are seen going without food and money. Even as migrant workers or labourers in India are struggling to go back to their homes, thanks to a handful labourers with their sheer commitment and contribution amidst pandemic situation India has recorded bumper export of Basmati rice.
India is the second largest exporter of rice in many countries like Middle Eastern countries, Nigeria, Indonesia and China. However due to nationwide lockdown to combat COVID-19, the consignments of Basmati rice were left abandoned at ports and foreign destinations however, the labourers who did not go to their homes and stayed back across the rice bowl areas.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) on its official Twitter handle mentioned that India has export 4,15,698 MT rice in global markets. In fact the APEDA says that price of Basmati is increased 10-15% in the global market.
The All India Rice Exporters Association (AIEA) has announced that the gross Basmati rice exports from the largest Basmati rice exporting country is expected to touch 4.4 million tonnes in this financial year.
The freight forwarding company, Sanguine Logistics Pvt Ltd informed that in the lockdown situation the stalled consignments in the mid of March have created havoc. The labourers at the port, CFS, airport, warehouses and those on the trucks are still doing their bit of contribution for India to gain momentum in export of Basmati.
Thousands of migrant labourers are waiting for their dues in pandemic situation. However, these handful labourers made export possible even in COVID-19.
